Our preparations are in full swing! The first construction phase for our surf park is already largely planned. We have reached another milestone with the purchase of the former Werne colliery site in December 2024.
We currently expect the construction site to be cleared from spring 2025 once the land-use planning process has been completed. If everything goes according to plan, the scientific part of the facility will open its doors at the end of 2026. The first surf season is then scheduled to start in spring 2027. You may be wondering:

A legitimate question! Here are a few facts and figures about the construction of our surf park: more than 5 years processing time for the public development plan, numerous expert opinions, supplementary expert opinions and expert opinion extensions, specialist planning, calculations, discussions, evidence, inquiries, additional claims and an estimated 80.000 pages of documents with many interim statuses, 47,356 square meters of forest compensation, over 400,000 euros for expert opinions and investigations in the course of the urban land-use plan process, 3 million euros in preliminary costs for specialist planning, advance environmental compensation and legal advice…
We don’t want to complain. But a project of this size doesn’t just happen by itself. That’s why we are particularly proud of our team and our strong network that supports us every day! Because you can believe us: we also want to get started as quickly as possible!

Yes, this applies to both parts of our dual project of SURFWRLD and SCNCWAVE, i.e. the sporting and the scientific part of our facility.
The basic plan is to mainly surf during the day from spring to fall and to use the winter months for research. We will offer catering, conference areas, rapid surfing and events all year round. Details are still being planned.

A whole lot! Look forward to rapid surfing (also indoors), great gastronomy, beach volleyball courts and other water sports as well as cool extras, which we will reveal to you soon!

Yes, there will be 49 natural pitches for campers and motorhomes on site, with electricity, a sanitary building and a dump station. And as we are preserving as much forest as possible, many pitches are even shaded under trees! Details will be announced in good time.
If you are not coming to us by camper, you will find suitable accommodation in our surf camp and later in an additional hotel.

Whether you’re a surf rookie or an old hand – the SURFWRLD has the right wave for every level. If you want to learn to surf or improve your technique, our surf courses are ideal for you!

Of course! You can book individual surf courses as well as complete surf camp packages with accommodation and meals. We will publish more information about our booking offer here in the future.

We generate our waves with compressed air. We are keeping more details under wraps as we are currently patenting our technology. But what we can already reveal: For surfing, we create waves up to 2 meters high. For research projects, we even create waves over 3 meters high or special effects with a width of up to 150 meters.

Sure, you can always bring your own equipment – no matter what level you are at. For beginners, we recommend softboards, which are included in our courses. As your ability increases, you can switch to harder boards.
Alternatively, you can also hire boards and neos in various sizes from us, test them on site and even buy them – with or without a surf course. So you’re always perfectly equipped!

From Intermediate level you can take part in our regular surf sessions, provided you are confident and independent on your bodyboard.
